Menopause is a natural part of aging. Changes in your body occur during menopause. These may include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness and absence of periods. Some women may experience some of these common symptoms while others may notice little more than the discontinuance of their periods.
When you start to experience some of these symptoms it is a good idea to make an appointment with your gynecologist to discuss your future health history and options.
Your health care provider will discuss the pros and cons of hormone replacement therapy. Many women go through emotional changes and have trouble enjoying intercourse. The emotional changes are usually a result of lack of estrogen. Intercourse may be uncomfortable due to an increase in vaginal dryness.
Most women expect to live around age 80. With this life span women need to live active, fulfilling lives without the concerns and discomforts that menopause often brings. They need to become involved in their health care by having routine screening tests and making healthy lifestyle choices. Sometimes many women must take routine medications in order to stay healthy. Be sure to take them as prescribed and do not skip doses. Eat well-balanced meals and try to get exercise several times per week.
